Val di Fassa / Fassatal

It consists of seven municipalities, is completely crossed by the river Avisio and is surrounded by some of the main massifs of the Dolomites: Monti Pallidi, Marmolada, Gruppo del Sella, Sassolungo, Gruppo del Catinaccio. The connection to other Dolomite valleys is guaranteed thanks to the many mountain passes: the St. Pelegrin Pass that connects Moena with the Biois Valley (Belluno) and the Costalunga pass that connects Vigo with the Ega Valley (South Tyrol). Departing from Canazei you can arrive in the village Livinallongo (Belluno) thanks to the Pordoi pass and the valley Val Gardena can be reached thanks to the Sella pass. The economy is mainly devoted to tourism, both in winter as in summer. The ski resorts of the valley are part of the consortium Dolomiti Superski, the most extensive skiing area in the world and in summer the lifts can be used to reach the most convenient starting points for many excursions, which are characterized by high mountain lakes, forests and steep mountain walls. Since this is the only valley in the region Trentino where the Dolomite Ladin language is used also today by the inhabitants, the customs and traditions, dedicated to this culture, are very pronounced: stories and legends that relate to the majestic mountains and the village Vigo di Fassa with its cultural institutions "Istituto Culturale Ladino Majon Tues fascegn" and the museum "Museo Ladino". <<<
